Registration procedures
As the breed Parent Club for the American Kennel Club (AKC), it is incumbent upon us to encourage all Lundehund owners to register their dogs. For a good explanation on the benefits of AKC registration, please visit THIS website.
According to the AKC/FSS® page for the Norwegian Lundehund, they will accept paperwork (i.e. pedigree) from "The Norwegian Lundehund Club of America, any acceptable domestic or foreign registry."

PLEASE NOTE:
AKC registration is not just to be able to show the Lundehund in AKC events.
Once the AKC closes the "open registration period" (which
will occur on July 1, 2013),
American-bred Lundehunds will no longer be able to transfer pedigree information
over. Without a valid AKC pedigree & registration number, American-bred
Lundehunds will not be accepted into foreign registration databases as a
pureblood Lundehund. While the lack of a registration number may not be a
significant detail for breeding here in the U.S., it is a major "show stopper"
in many European countries. Depending on the country, before
a breeding may even occur, many breeders must first submit the pedigrees, submit
to a house inspection, veterinary inspection, etc. Without an AKC #,
entire genealogical lines could be lost from valid breeding programs.
If you'd like to discuss this issue further, we encourage you to contact your
Regional Director.

NOTE: The NLAA is the Parent Club, as designated by the American Kennel Club. As such, we can only advocate for AKC registration. There is nothing stating that a dog can not be registered in multiple registries. Many Lundehunds in the US are dual-registered in both the AKC & the UKC and several also hold registration #s in foreign countries. The key is to make sure the genealogical chain is UNBROKEN! The purpose of a pureblood breed registry is to provide valid, unequivocal proof of the historical chain. Once it is broken, from that point onward, it is forever broken for that dog & its descendants.
